What Is The General Eligibility To Apply For MS In Canada?

To pursue a Master’s in Canada, you need to hold a 16 year study experience with a 4 year Bachelor’s Degree. Some colleges may offer a 3 year Bachelor’s program but you can still apply for a Master’s in Canada if that’s the case, unless stated otherwise.

In addition to that, you must meet the English language requirements of the universities in Canada you are applying to. Each university in Canada has its own English language requirements and you must keep yourself updated with the latest guidelines.

When you are applying for Masters in Canada, you must have a satisfactory academic record. Most universities do not require you to have work experience before studying for Masters. However, if you are applying to a Canadian Business School, the entry requirements may be different. Generally, these business schools expect you to have at least 2 to 3 years of work experience before you apply.

When you have a good academic record, you also become eligible for a number of scholarships for MS in Canada

What Tests Should You Give While Applying For MS in Canada?

Most of the graduate courses in Canada might ask you to appear for standardized entrance tests that you may need to crack. This is because all overseas students belong to international university boards that have their own method of calculating the average academic scores of students. For example, the UK has the Honours Degree System (2:2), the USA follows a Grade Point Average (4.0) scale, many colleges follow a Grading System (A, B, C, D) or Percentage System.

These entrance tests are conducted to create uniformity and abide by a standard system to measure the potential of each candidate. You are especially encouraged to appear for the following tests if you wish to enroll yourself into a Management or Business School.

GMAT: If you want to apply for MS in Canada, you have to appear for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Most Business schools, not just in Canada but around the world consider students who have good GMAT scores. The test will assess your writing skills, analytical skills, quantitative and qualitative thinking and more. GMAT is usually a prerequisite for students who want to pursue an MBA program.

GRE: When it comes to standardized tests, most universities in the USA and Canada accept GRE as a substitute for GMAT. GRE will test you on three skills; Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The Verbal section of GRE is one of the toughest in the world, but you can easily learn and implement the tips to crack GRE’s Verbal Section

IELTS: The most common English Proficiency Tests (EPT) is IELTS. The International English Language Testing System assesses your English proficiency based on your –  writing, speaking, listening and reading.  If you wish to apply for MS in Canada, you will be asked to provide evidence of your English Skills through IELTS.

TOEFL: Just like GRE is an alternative to GMAT, TOEFL is an alternative to IELTS. TOEFL also assesses your English language based on the same areas tested by IELTS. However, TOEFL is conducted more frequently than IELTS. Conducted more than 50 times a year, TOEFL is organised by more than 165 countries.

If you are not a Canadian citizen, you will have to apply for a Student Visa to study in Canada. Here are the steps involved while applying for a student visa in Canada:

Step 1: Apply for MS in Canada at a University and Get Accepted.

This is required because while applying for a study visa in Canada, you have to provide evidence of being accepted at a University in Canada. For this purpose, you have to submit an unconditional offer letter or a letter of acceptance from the university.

Step 2: Make a list of the documents you need to submit and start preparing for them.

Depending on the course you have applied to, the duration of your studies and the country of your origin, you will need to submit a list of documents while applying for a Canadian visa. This includes financial statements (loans, bursaries, scholarships or grants), letter of acceptance, proof of nationality and birth, academic transcripts just to name a few.

Step 3: Apply for a Canadian Visa online.

Make sure you keep your passport, letter of acceptance from the university and your financial documents ready before applying for a Candian student visa.

Bio-metrics are nothing but unique human codes that can be accessed through your eyes or fingerprints. Some countries are exempt from providing their bio metric information. In addition to that, depending on specific cases, applicants are also called for personal interviews.

Step 6: Look for student accommodations while waiting for your visa to arrive

If you wish to apply for MS in Canada and have been successful, you need to make arrangements for your housing.
