What Is A Police Clearance Certificate? | Documents Required For PCC

A Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is a document granted by higher Indian authorities to Indian passport holders who are looking to obtain residential status, a long-term visa, employment or immigration. A Police Clearance Certificate is not required for nationals going abroad on a tourist visa. PCC cannot be granted on a tourist visa.

There is a list of seventeen countries that make up the ECR (Emigration Check Required) countries. A PCC is mandatorily required in case of applying for employment in these countries. They are as follows:

How To Apply For A Police Clearance Certificate Online? | Documents Required For PCC

A Police Clearance Certificate can be obtained both, online and offline. The process of applying for a PCC online is easy, hassle-free and saves your time as compared to applying for it offline. The steps to apply for a PCC online are as follows:

  • Firstly, you have to create your account on the Passport Seva Portal and log in using your credentials.
  • Look for the option “Apply for Police Clearance Certificate” and click on it.
  • The new page will have the form which you are required to fill out and submit.
  • Once you have submitted your form, look for “View Saved/Submitted Applications”. Click on the Pay and Schedule Appointment.
  • Online payment is mandatory for you to take the process ahead and schedule your appointment. You can use credit\debit cards, online banking and other methods of online payment.
  • After that, download and print your application receipt and save or note down your Application Reference Number or Appointment Number.
  • Appear on the day and place you have selected in the form for your appointment.

 

Processing Time For Police Clearance Certificate | Documents Required For PCC

In case of police verification, the police might pay your address a visit and your PCC might take up to a month to arrive. In case of no police verification, it might take a day or a few days at max for your Police Clearance Certificate to be uploaded on the Passport Seva website. You can track your certificate’s status on the website by logging in with your credentials.

  • Documents required for PCC by Skilled/Semi-Skilled Workers (Individuals):
    • Original copy of old passport with self-attested photocopy of first and last two pages.
    • Proof of Address (in case of change of address mentioned in the passport)
    • Self-attested photocopy of the employment contract.
    • Copy of valid visa.
  • Documents required for PCC by Unskilled/Women Workers (Individuals):
    • Original old passport with self-attested photocopy of first and last two pages.
    • Proof of Address (in case of change of address mentioned in the passport)
    • Self-attested photocopy of the employment contract duly attested by the Indian Mission or Permission letter of the concerned Indian mission/post.
    • Copy of valid visa.
  • Documents required for PCC by Skilled/Semi-SkilledWorkers (through recruiting agents): Individuals who have gotten into an employment contract with a foreign national through a recruiting agent require the following documents:
    • Original copy of old passport with self-attested photocopy of first and last two pages.
    • Proof of Address (in case of change of address mentioned in the passport)
    • Photocopy of original employment contract, demand letter and power of attorney from the foreign employer duly attested by the recruiting agency.
    • Photocopy of valid registration certificate from Protectorate of Emigrants, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Govt. of India.

1. What is the validity of the PCC issued?

The Police Clearance Certificate issued to you by the Indian authorities is valid for 6 months.

2. Can a minor citizen apply for a PCC?

A minor citizen can obtain a PCC only if it is required by a foreign government.

3. How do Indian nationals staying abroad obtain a Police Clearance Certificate?

Indian nationals staying abroad can fill out the form for obtaining a Police Clearance Certificate on the Indian Missions website which will then forward their application to the PIA (Passport Issuing Authority) in India. Once processed and documents verified, the Indian Missions will issue the PCC.

4. Is there an age limit on procuring a Police Clearance Certificate?

There is no age limit on procuring a PCC.
