India’s Finest Post Matric Scholarship

Post Matric Scholarship

The concept of a Post Matric Scholarship was introduced in India with the objective to increase levels of literacy and mitigate the effects of poverty. Before I tell you everything about Post Matric Scholarships, take a look at the state-wise literacy rate of India for the year 2021:

If you find the time to compare the literacy rate for the year 2021 with the year 1977, you will see a significant difference in the key figures. Ever since the introduction of Post Matric Scholarships in the year 1977, India has seen a gradual increase in literacy rates across all states. With scholarships offered to students of the socially and economically weaker section of the society, these awards granted by the government of India, have been helpful in redistributing access to education in all parts of the country.

What Is The Post Matric Scholarship?

The Post Matric Scholarship Scheme is the Government of India’s initiative to increase the enrolment of Indian students who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) into post-secondary levels of education. This is done by providing financial assistance to students to help them commence higher education. The scholarship particularly targets students who are in their 11th or 12th levels of study. Post matric Scholarships extend to support students who belong to minority communities such as Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

This scholarship is offered to only Indian students who are selected by their respective state governments or union territories they belong to.  The post matric scholarships application process has been made easier in recent years.

Your region of origin will be determined by the domicile decided by the State. Even though the Post-Matric Scholarships are offered by both central and state governments, the scholarship offered by the central government is applicable to students nationwide. On the other hand, the Post Matric Scholarship offered by the state governments is only limited to the state or region.

What Is The Basic Eligibility For Post Matriculation Scholarship?

Read on to find out more about post-matric scholarships eligibility:-

  1. The scholarship will be granted to students whose family income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs from all sources. The income statement must be authorised by the authority decided by the Government of India.
  2. The age limit for each scholarship differs and is decided by the concerned institutions.
  3. The scholarship can only be granted once in a student’s lifetime- one of the most essential rules in post-matric scholarships eligibility
  4. You are eligible to apply for this scholarship even if you are a correspondence student.
  5. All children of any parent/guardian applying for this scholarship for their ward(s) will benefit from this scholarship- a very beneficial rule of the post matric scholarships application process.

Pre-Matric Scholarship For SC Students of Classes IX and X

This scholarship aims to reduce the rate of SC students dropping out after their 9th and 10th level of education. In order to smoothen the transition from elementary school to secondary school, the pre-matric is offered to students who cannot afford education or do not have the right circumstances to continue their studies.

To apply for this scholarship, you need to be a student citizen of India who is currently studying anywhere between 1st and 10th grade. You should be willing to become a full-time student at a government recognised school such as the Central/State Board of Secondary Education. The selection process depends heavily on the financial needs of the candidates and not merit. However, the scholarship is valid only for one year and cannot be applied for the same year twice. This might happen if a candidate fails or has to repeat a year of studies. In addition to these conditions, the family income of a candidate should not exceed Rs. 2 lakhs for a Pre-Matric Scholarship.

Pre Matric scholars are eligible for Rs. 150  (day scholars) and Rs. 350 (hostellers) per month that can be used to cover the tuition fees. Besides that, scholars are also eligible for an ad hoc grant to help them with books and stationery.

While a candidate is selected based on his or her need for finances, a candidate’s merit plays an important role in getting them considered for the grant.

Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis are considered as minority communities in India under Section 2 ( c )  of the  National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992. Only Indian citizens who belong to a minority community are eligible for this

Scholarship. To be considered for this minority scholarship, candidates must score at least a 50% in their previous examination. Families having the lowest income and most meritorious children will be granted the award as a priority.

The scholarship will cover up to Rs. 7000 for students of 11th and 12th grade. Undergraduate day scholars and hosteller students are eligible for a maximum of Rs 3000 per annum. M.Phil and PhD students are eligible for Rs. 1200 per month for hostellers and Rs 550 per month for day scholars.
