How Much Can I Earn By Teaching English As A Foreign Language? 

The answer to this question depends on where you choose to teach. If you want to work with an employer, you will be eligible for a fixed remuneration or stipend. Your employer may also want you to sign a contract that curbs your flexibility of teaching at other places or conduct classes privately. In such cases, your income through teaching English as a second language may range from USD 600 to USD 4000. 

On the other hand, you may choose to tutor privately and advertise your classes in local newspapers and online. In such cases, your client base increases purely through word-of-mouth and trust. This is one of the many ways to increase your income streams and conduct classes at your convenience and availability. Moreover, you also have the flexibility to change the status of your hourly fees as per your benefit. Typical English tuitions (online) range from USD 9 to USD 10 per hour.

Do You Need A Visa To Travel To Teach English As A Foreign Language? 

If you are travelling to a country and are going to earn an income there, you will need a different visa from say a student visa or a tourist visa. You must check the requirements and policies of the country you are travelling to and then make arrangements for your travel. If you are a university student, you must already be eligible to work for a given number of hours per week, for example, you are eligible to work 20 hours per week in the UK and 16 hours per week in the USA as a student. 

How To Get A TEFL Certificate? 

A majority of TEFL courses are conducted online by accredited TEFL instructors who train you with the fundamentals of teaching English as a foreign language. The course will help you cover the skills and the tools required to teach English professionally. 

The course may range from 80 to 100 hours with at least 6 to 20 hours of practicum. A practicum is a live practice training session and observation of non-native English speakers. The curriculum you will follow will be from an accredited and independent organization such as Cambridge and Trinity.
