About

Edith Cowan University is a public Australian university in Perth, Western Australia. Claremont Teachers College, the first tertiary education institution in Western Australia, is the main origin of this university, dating back to 1902. Following the establishment of this college, many other colleges such as Graylands Teachers College, the Western Australian Secondary Teachers College, Mount Lawley Teachers College,  Nedlands College of Advanced Education, and Churchlands Teachers College were established over the years.

 

These colleges merged in 1982 to form the Western Australian College of Advanced Education. This institution was granted 'university' status on January 1, 1991, and was later renamed Edith Cowan University. This university has eight schools: Business and Law, Arts and Humanities, Education, Engineering, Medical and Health Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, Science, and Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. It offers more than 400 courses.

 

The university offers a wide range of engineering specialisations, as well as degrees in business, law, communication, the arts, humanities, psychology, the social sciences, social work, criminology, and justice. It also offers degrees in exercise and health sciences, medical science, biomedical science, speech pathology and paramedicine, nursing and midwifery, biology and environmental sciences, mathematics, physics, and biology. There is a Center for Research in Entertainment, Arts, Technology, Education, and Communications, which focuses on communications and the creative arts.
