About
The University of Newcastle, also referred to as Newcastle University or UON, is a public university in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It was founded in 1965, and its main campus is in the Callaghan neighbourhood of Newcastle. The institution also maintains campuses in Singapore, Newcastle CBD, Port Macquarie, Ourimbah, and Sydney CBD. The University of Newcastle’s acceptance rate stands at 80%. It was first introduced by the University of Newcastle Medical School for its undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine programme. In the early 1990s, it was a pioneer in the implementation of the Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT). Since then, many medical schools in Australia have recognised UMAT as an extra criterion for admission.
The Newcastle Teachers College (founded in 1949) and Newcastle University College (NUC, established 1951) are the UON's earliest known predecessors. NUC was founded as a branch of the New South Wales University of Technology, which is now known as the University of New South Wales, and it shared space at Tighes Hill with the Newcastle Technical College. When NUC was founded, there were only five full-time students, and the fields of study were limited to engineering, mathematics, and science. Newcastle University is a part of Universities Australia, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the Australian Technology Network.

Facilities
The Newcastle University Students' Association (NUSA), Yourimbah, and Newcastle University Postgraduate Students' Association (NUPSA) were the three organisations that represented university students from 2016 until 2020; These organisations stopped operations in 2020 and merged to create the University of Newcastle Student's Association (UNSA), a single student organisation. Library:
The UON library is divided into three libraries which is spread across three campuses. The Auchmuty, Ourimbah, and Newcastle City campus libraries are among them. The library has developed multidisciplinary learning spaces in recent years, including a Micro Studio for multimedia production and a Maker Room to encourage students to come up with their own solutions to problems.
Sports Facilities:
On all of its sites, the institution provides access to a variety of sporting facilities. The majority of these facilities, which include six athletic ovals, tennis and squash courts, and a sports and aquatic centre, are located on the Callaghan campus. These facilities are overseen by NUsport through a group called "The Forum." An Olympic-sized swimming pool, the second-highest climbing wall in the Southern Hemisphere, and a number of other sporting facilities can be found at "The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre, University." The Hunter Hurricanes National League Water Polo team, the Newcastle Jets from the A-League, and the Newcastle Knights from the National Rugby League (NRL) all train there. The Forum operates a facility called "The Forum, Health and Wellness centre, Harbourside" not far from Newcastle's central business district.

The University Of Newcastle Entry Requirements
Students can submit an application for admission to the UON in January, February, May, June, July, and August. Application submission is advised at least two months before the targeted semester.
