Year 2

In the second year you will work on a series of studio projects. These projects will introduce perspective on their place in art. Group presentations and visits to contemporary art exhibitions are also important elements of the
programme. The department offers a range of workshops in areas such as software applications, basic electronics, sensor technology, chemical darkroom practice and digital print processes.
 

Year 3: Studio + & International

Studio+ is an optional year between the second and final year of your degree. Open to all Fine Art students, it offers the opportunity to gain experience in a range of social and cultural contexts in the world beyond NCAD. This experience will be gained through work with different organisations with links to the School of Fine Art and will help you to build your skills as an artist. Studio+ can also include a period of study abroad through the Erasmus programme with internationally recognised art faculties partnered with NCAD.

 

Final Year

The final year is structured to support you in developing your self-directed art practice. You will have a personal tutor, related to your own expertise and aspirations, to help you decide from the range of possibilities. By the end of the final year you will have developed a substantial body of research and studio work, and will present the outcomes in an exhibition space for examination. You will also be actively encouraged and supported in applying for postgraduate study. The course also features visiting lecturers, off-campus collaborative opportunities, field trips, and study visits. In each year of the programme, time is devoted to studies in Visual Culture where you will learn ways to analyse and situate your own practice, and that of others, in the contemporary world. You will become a reflective and professional artist through studying the connections between history, theory and practice, in modern and contemporary contexts.

Leaving Cert: 6 Subjects (2 X H5 and 4 X O6/H7)
 

• Subjects must include English, Irish and one of the following: a third language or Art or Design and Communication Graphics (DCG)

QQI/FET/FETAC Level 5/6: 5 Distinctions Full Award
 

English Language Requirement
 

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
 

• An average score of 6.5 over all components and a minimum of 6.0 in each band on the Academic Version.

 

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
 

• A minimum score of 90 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iBT) with no less than 21 in writing and at least 19 in every other section.
