As a strategic advisor, you should possess sound accounting knowledge and an understanding of its applicability across different disciplines. The SMU BAcc degree offers a rigorous curriculum that delivers the right balance of technical skills and broad-based education for our students. This cross-disciplinary approach enables you to gain an appreciation of the applicability of accounting knowledge across all fields.

 

To complete the SMU BAcc programme, students need to complete 36 modules consisting of Accounting Core courses (Accounting and Business Subjects), Accounting Electives, SMU Core Curriculum courses (Capabilities, Communities and Civilisations) and Free Electives from any other course of study. As part of the SMU Core Curriculum requirements, students are also expected to complete the SMU Internship programme and a minimum of 80 hours of Community Service. Students will also need to embark on at least one global exposure experience before graduating.

 

The technical component of the BAcc curriculum consists of 18 Accounting Core and 3 Accounting Electives modules. The Accounting Core provides students with all the required technical knowledge to function as a professional accountant. Students who are interested in specialised areas and new emerging issues can select from a range of Accounting Electives, giving them the flexibility to pursue deeper knowledge in their preferred accounting area or broaden their accounting skill sets.

• Applicants must demonstrate good prior academic performance in an undergraduate degree from a recognised institution of higher learning.
• Applicants must have sufficient background in Mathematics/Calculus.
• GMAT or SMU Admission Test* is a compulsory requirement for admission to this programme.
• Applicants with post-undergraduate working experience will have an added advantage.
• Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an online interview with the Admissions Panel. 
• Applicants must show proficiency in the English language. A TOEFL or IELTS test is required if the applicant's undergraduate degree was not conducted in English.

 

As a number of our courses in the programme are quantitative in nature, a good background in mathematics/calculus is essential to enable you to progress through these courses. Some of the criteria that will be used in evaluating the applicant's background in mathematics/calculus include:

• GMAT score with a minimum score of at least 60 percentile for the quantitative component; or
• Satisfactory completion of some mathematical courses at a university level; or
• Have completed at least two mathematical courses at the polytechnic level with a minimum B grade; or
• An acceptable foundation in mathematics at GCE A-level or O-level or its equivalent.

Students who receive a Tuition Grant are able to pay subsidised tuition fees for their course of study.

The subsidised fees for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents shown are without GST which is separately subsidised by the Singapore Government. The subsidised fees for International Students and non-subsidised fees are inclusive of GST.

 

Tuition fees may change from year to year for each new incoming cohort. However, students enrolled in AY2022/23 will pay fixed fees throughout the normal duration of studies (4 years duration) i.e. this cohort will not be subjected to further fee increases during this period for the Regular Terms.

 

Current SMU students will not be affected by the AY2022/23 fees as they will continue to pay the fees that applied to their respective cohort year.

 

AY2022/23 entering freshmen who are not eligible for or choose not to apply for a Tuition Grant are required to pay the non-subsidised fees mentioned above.

According to the SMU Graduate Employment Survey (GES) 2021, 98.7% of our graduates gained employment within 6 months of graduation. 76% of our graduates received job offers before graduation. Among those who were employed, 61% of our graduates were employed or offered a position in the same company where they interned.
