MRes International Relations

This pre-doctoral training programme is taught in conjunction with the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) and is an approved pathway for ESRC 1+3 PhD studentship funding. This makes the International Relations MRes an ideal springboard for advancement into a research-related role, or to continue on to further study.

 

This engaging research programme provides a sophisticated theoretical and applied understanding of international relations. It aims to provide you with advanced skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods and delves into specialised topics such as war and security, globalisation and development and US foreign policy.

 

The programme enables you to develop a set of analytical skills and knowledge that will allow you to think, talk and write critically about contemporary international issues, as well as building a firm foundation for further study.

Degree requirements
A 2:1 or above at undergraduate level in a Life Sciences subject.

 

Student Visa Regulations

If you will require a Student visa to study in the UK, you must meet the minimum English Language requirements to meet the UKVI regulations.  The minimum IELTS requirement is 5.5 in all four skills (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening).  However, many of our courses require higher grades.

 

Pre-sessional English Language Courses

If you fall slightly below our standard English language requirements, you may consider one of our Pre-sessional English courses.  Please note that you will require a UK government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) for entry to our Thirteen week pre-sessional courses.  Currently, only IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic (UKVI), LanguageCert International ESOL SELT and Trinity College London, Integrated Skills in English (ISE) are accepted. This programme will provide you with advanced skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods which could help you work towards an MPhil or PhD.

 
During your studies you'll have access to one-to-one academic guidance, tailored workshops, and external guest speakers on topics such as careers in public affairs and working in parliament.
