About

The newly created County Borough of West Ham in the UK launched the University of East London in 1892 after deciding to create a West Ham Technical Institute to serve the neighbourhood. Three separate institutions (West Ham, Walthamstow, and Dagenham) combined to become the North East London Polytechnic, which was established in 1970. The North East London Polytechnic changed its name to the Polytechnic of East London in 1989 after becoming a higher education institution.
