Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarship 2020 programme supports students from under-represented backgrounds in their chemistry studies. The programme was established in memory of Denis Henry Desty, who studied chemistry at Southampton in the 1940s and went on to become a pioneer in the fields of chromatography and combustion science.

Value of Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarship 2020:

  • The student will receive 2,000 pounds per year, for each year they are studying at Southampton. Each recipient will receive up to 8,000 pounds during the four-year course, depending on whether they undertake a paid placement year as part of their studies, during which they would not receive a payment.

  • Students in four-year MChem programmes.
  • Students from under-represented backgrounds.

How To Apply

For direct entry into the 3 year MPhil/PhD programme applicants are expected to have an MSc degree in Economics and/or Econometrics or equivalent with a strong component in Macroeconomic Theory, Microeconomic Theory and Econometrics.

Students with related Master’s degrees or with a more limited background in core Economics subjects but strong transcripts and proposals are also welcome to apply to our integrated 4-year version of our PhD programme (iPhD) with a more important first year coursework component.

Undergraduate students interested in pursuing an Economics PhD are also welcome to apply to our taught 12 months MSc programmes upon successful completion of which a PhD application can follow.

English Language Requirements: If your first language or language of education is not English, we will ask you to show evidence of fluency in the use of English. For all of our postgraduate programmes we require a level of IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.00 in all components.
