Bachelor of Actuarial Studies (Honours)

This Honours plan requires the completion of 48 units, which must consist of:
 

24 units from completion of the following compulsory course:

• ACST4500 Actuarial Honours Thesis

18 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:
 

• ACST4031 Actuarial Control Cycle 1
• ACST4032 Actuarial Control Cycle 2
• ACST4062 Actuarial Data Analysis
   

6 units from completion of courses from the following list:

• FINM4106 Advanced Investments
• STAT4018 Stochastic Modelling
• STAT4026 Graphical Data Analysis
• STAT4027 Statistical Inference
• STAT4029 Design of Experiments and Surveys
• STAT4102 Applied Time Series Analysis
• STAT4116 Introduction to Bayesian Data Analysis
   

To complete the degree, students will also be required to complete the research training activities specified by the convenor of the program.
 

Honours calculation

 The final Honours Exit Level is the sum of all achieved course weightings. The course weighting is calculated for each individual course using the below formula:

                              (unit value of course/total units for degree) x final numerical grade of the course 

Elective Study

Once you have met the program requirements of your degree, you may have enough electives to complete an additional elective major, minor or specialisation.

Admission Requirements

At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to ANU is on a competitive basis as the number of places available in a program is limited. Admission to Honours is also subject to supervisory capacity and approval from the relevant Delegated Authority within the Academic College.
 

Applicants must present:
 

An AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Actuarial Studies degree or equivalent, completed within the last two years with a weighted average mark equivalent to an ANU 75 per cent calculated from 36 units (i.e. 0.75 EFTSL) equivalent to the following ANU courses:
STAT2005 Introduction to Stochastic Processes
 

• STAT3032 Survival Models
• STAT3037 Life Contingencies
• STAT3038 Actuarial Techniques
• STAT3035 Risk Theory OR STAT3057 Risk Modelling 1
• STAT3036 Credibility Theory OR STAT3058 Risk Modelling 2
