Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning

Choose courses that meet your career goals from an industry-relevant selection of topics that cover funds management, risk management, retirement planning and superannuation. You’ll study four subjects: at least two are compulsory, and you can customise your degree with up to two electives.  

The compulsory courses include personal financial planning and management, risk and insurance, and estate planning, succession and asset protection. The electives include behavioural finance and principles of Australian taxation law. The compulsory courses (and some of the electives) in this program are approved by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA).

English language requirements

You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

If English is not your first language, you’ll need to provide proof of your English proficiency before you can be given an offer to study at UNSW. You can do this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

• English language tests and university English courses
• Prior study in the medium of English
• Other qualifications

As a graduate of the Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning, you’ll be able to understand the financial needs of a client or organisation. You’ll also have the ability to research, analyse and design suitable strategies with appropriate financial products. You’ll be taught to prepare and implement a compliant financial plan and provide ongoing reviews.
